Delivering bliss to your backyard.

by Nancy Heide

Materials needed (all lumber is treated):

2.................... 12 feet 2 x 6
2.................... 6 feet 2 x 2
41.................. 3 feet 2 x 4
3-inch deck screws
25' string and a stake
pencil

wood protector, paint brush
circular saw or sawsall
drill

1. Lay out one 2 x 6 and one 2 x 2 so that they are parallel to each other and their centers are in line.

2. Lining the stake up with the centers of the boards, drive it into the ground 24 feet away from the bottom edge of the 2 x 6. Tie the string to it. Now hold your pencil and the other end of the string taut, and draw part of a circle on your boards. You might want to practice a bit and make some adjustments to get your curve just right. Repeat with the other set of boards.

3. Cut the curve with a circular saw or sawsall, using the proper safety procedures.

4. Apply wood protector to all parts of the wood that have been cut.

5. Screw the cut 2 x 2's to the 2 x 6's.

6. You should complete the rest of this project in an area close to where you you're your bridge, as it will be heavy to move. Lay out the frame of the bridge so that they are parallel to each other. Use a box that's 2 ½ feet wide to get it just right, sliding the box inside the frame and adjusting the boards.

7. Now, starting at the center, fasten the 2 x 4 planks onto your frame. You'll be finished in no time!
